Topics

  • Critical e-learning concepts, tools, standards and best practices for East Africa
  • Multimedia production basics for event and lecture capture, course creation and cd- and web-based delivery
  • Access and integration of free Open Educational Resources (OER), data mining and identification of relevant resources to enhance e-learning
  • Establishment of a web publishing process for the development of shared regional web resources (e.g. open courses and “living” digital libraries)

The workshop will focus on the application of a “classroom-in-a-bag” kit for facilitating e-learning activities and developing regional shared resources.  The kit consists of robust suite of hardware and software for easy video conferencing, synchronous web-based instruction, the capture and processing of live events and the packaging of course materials and multimedia into shareable, standards-compliant learning objects and modules. 

 

Upon completion of the workshop each participant will have been trained in the utilization of the classroom in a bag and will return to their home institution with a donated kit.  A regional community of practice will be established to facilitate continued innovation and long term support in e-learning, web and networking technology.
